Book Review: The Gravity of Us – Phil Stamper

Such a sweet read!

The blurb from the back of the book:

Cal wants to be a journalist, and he’s already well underway with almost half a million followers on his FlashFame app and an upcoming internship at Buzzfeed. But his plans are derailed when his pilot father is selected for a highly-publicized NASA mission to Mars. Within days, Cal and his parents leave Brooklyn for hot and humid Houston.

With the entire nation desperate for any new information about the astronauts, Cal finds himself thrust in the middle of a media circus. Suddenly his life is more like a reality TV show, with his constantly bickering parents struggling with their roles as the “perfect American family.”

And then Cal meets Leon, whose mother is another astronaut on the mission, and he finds himself falling head over heels–and fast. They become an oasis for each other amid the craziness of this whole experience. As their relationship grows, so does the frenzy surrounding the Mars mission, and when secrets are revealed about ulterior motives of the program, Cal must find a way to get to the truth without hurting the people who have become most important to him.

I loved, loved, loved this story!

When Cal is forced to move from New York to Texas (his dad has the chance to go to Mars and the whole family is relocated), he believes that his life has ended.

Cal has millions of followers on his app and they only climb with his coverage of the Orpheus V mission.

After a few ups and downs, Cal finds Texas better than he thought. In large part, that was down to Leon.

I feel like Cal and Leon’s relationship is the main part of this book. We get to see them fully understand each other and grow and learn.

It is a really cute love story that left me hanging on for more.

I would love to see what happens for Cal and Leon next. Are they still together?? In need to know!!

The writing is spot on, and the chapters short enough that you want to keep reading. (A huge thumbs up from me 👍)

I gave this book ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

My name is Lisa and the pooch in my profile picture is my baby, Skye. I love everything bookish! I also find things like tarot and angel cards, along with runes and gemstones really interesting and I like to incorporate these into my photos.
