First Lines Friday – 15/11/19

First Line Friday is a weekly feature that I now love to take part in.

It is hosted by Wandering Words.

What if, instead of judging a book by its cover or by its author, we judged the book

by its opening lines?

Here is how it works:

– Pick a book off your shelf and open to the first page.

– Copy the first few lines without giving the book away.

– Reveal the book.

Since it is #SciFiMonth, I want to reveal one of my favourite books from this genre.

Here we go!

‘I find my mother in the shadows – like the shell of a hollow moon, on the verge of crumbling to dust. Like I might not make it in time even though she’s a mere twenty feet away.

“Hello?” My voice bounces from the steel-gray walls, from the shale-slab tile, from the panorama of glass that separates the inside of our station from the glittering ocean of stars.

Scroll down to reveal the book!

This Splintered Silence by Kayla Olson

I loved this book and couldn’t recommend it enough!!

Has anybody else read this book yet? What did you think? 🙂

My name is Lisa and the pooch in my profile picture is my baby, Skye. I love everything bookish! I also find things like tarot and angel cards, along with runes and gemstones really interesting and I like to incorporate these into my photos.

  1. I am also interested in tarot! Have you ever seen the film Endless Poetry with the life of Jodorowsky? Maybe you’re going to like it. Keep writing!

  2. What a fun thing to do! Great opening! Here’s a science fiction first line that stuck with me:
I did two things on my seventy-fifth birthday. I visited my wife’s grave. Then I joined the army.

It’s from Old Man’s War by John Scalzi.
